Pfc Gene L. Oxford graduated from Taft Union High School 1941, where he played football and attended Barbara State College. He was employed at the Standard Oil Company before he enlisted on 20 March 1942..He was killed by a German land mine explosion while he was on a combat patrol near Höfen, Germany.
