Pvt Barton E. Weaver graduated from Hawarden High School. He attended Iowa State Teachers College and the University of South Dakota. He had been employed for a year at Farmers State Bank.
He joined the U.S. Army Reserve on 6 September 1942. He attended Tarleton College in Texas as part of the ASTP program until March 1944. He returned to Camp Maxey where he was invited to be part of the 99th Infantry band as an oboe player. He was sent overseas in October 1944.

He was taken prisoner on 19 December 1944 in the vicinity of Bütgenbach, Belgium. He died in the hospital of Stalag II-A.
Pvt Weaver is remembered at Grace Hill Cemetery in Hawarden, Sioux County, Iowa with a memorial marker.
