John Spero attended high school for three years and was a metal worker.He enlisted in New York City, New York on 17 November 1942.
The tank, in which Pfc Spero was a crew member, was knocked out by anti-tank fire. Another crew member, Cpl Arthur Holub, was fatally wounded and died on 13 January 1945. He is buried at Epinal Cemetery.
