Yves Noel's great-great-grandfather on his father's side was born in Hainaut, Belgium.

According to a statement B Company was in Campholz Woods. About 2130 near the pillbox on the northeast side of the woods, Pvt Noel stepped on a mine while acting as a litter bearer. Pvt Noel was instantly killed and several others injured. Later attempt was made to remove his body but this was not feasible due to the mines.
On 27 May 1946 the remains of Yves Noel were found by five German civilians in an open field near the town of Borg, Germany. He then was marked as unknown X-2666 until positive identification on 13 November 1946.
