More information
2nd Lt Alfred R. Tenney Jr. attended Worcester Tech for one year before he joined the Air Corps of the U.S. Army Reserve in Boston, Massachusetts, on 31 July 1942.Statement of 1st Lt Donald G. Dowell:
"While flying a Visual Reconnaissance Mission in an area northwest of Bastogne, Belgium at approximately 1120 hours on 24 December 1944, at an approximate altitude of 3,500 feet and a speed of about 300 miles per hour, my wingman, 2nd Lt Alfred R. Tenny, Jr of this organization, called to me that flak was coming up. On looking, I saw a hole in my wing and Lt Tenny called again and said that while he was unhurt, his ship had been hit and that he would have to bail out. I told him to fly west as far as possible, and as he headed in that direction, I circled above. I saw what I thought to be Lt Tenny leave the ship, although later reports indicate his parachute to have been white and that color did not coincide with the color of the object observed. I followed the ship down and saw it crash and then circled the area for about five minutes, but could see no trace of Lt Tenny."
