Cyril W. Blood graduated from Potsdam High School and St. Lawrence University with a Bachelor degree of Science. He was employed as a salesman for the American Sheeting Co.

He enlisted in Syracuse, New York on 6 January 1941. He was later discharged as over-age, and following Pearl Harbor he was called back to active duty.

He trained two years at Fort Hancock, New Jersey and later attended school in Indiana and later in Texas.

He was sent overseas in the fall of 1944.
