T/Sgt Mayer graduated from Cathedral High School and was employed by Beemster Electric Company.

He enlisted in the Air Corps on 5 October 1942 in Milwaukee in Wisconsin. He was sent overseas on 30 April 1944.

He had been wounded before while on a mission over Germany on 30 September 1944.

The airplane left formation after bombs away and was hit by fighters and flak.

T/Sgt Clement Mayer, had completed 22 missions at the time of his death.
