Howard Midkiff worked in a machine shop.

He volunteered for the Air Corps of the Army of the United States in Richmond, Virginia on 12 January 1942.

The airplane was hit in the radio-compartement by heavy anti-aircraft fire over the target and crashed.

Three crew members survived, three men were killed.

Howard Midkiff was initially buried at the American Military Cemetery and Memorial in Tunis, Tunisia.

His cousin Frank Midkiff is buried at Plot K, Row 14, Grave 15. Most likely S/Sgt Midkiff was reburied at Margraten at the request of his familiy.
