Pfc David D. Bisbee graduated from Waitsfield High School with the class of 1941. He played baseball four years and was active in many school activities. He worked on a farm.

He volunteered for the Army of the Unites States in Rutland, Vermont on 30 January 1942 and went to Fort Monmouth, New Jersey and later trained with the 2nd Signal Company of the 2nd Division. He held the rank of sergeant with the 2nd Signal Company.

While at the University of Chicago for an engineering course he passed the Air Corps examinations and went to Marietta, Ohio, as an aviation student. In 1944 when so many with previous training, were transferred from the Air Corps to the infantry he was transferred to the 75th Division.

He was sent overseas in October 1944, he was sent into combat in December 1944.

He was laying wire while his battalion was in the attack and was moving toward the front when the jeep, he was in, ran over an enemy mine.
