More information
Pfc Andrew M. Rymer was a student at the North Carolina State College. He had a great sense of humor and was a great guy to deal with.He enlisted at Camp Croft, South Carolina on 7 July 1943.
Andy Rymer was the last man killed in action from A Company. He died when his M18, Hellcat, was hit with a Panzerfaust rocket.
From a letter by George H. Caldwell, one of Andrew's officers:
"He died as he had lived, close to the men among whom he had worked, and to whom he meant so much. He was, with other men in his platoon, making an attack on a German town when he was killed instantly by small arms fire from enemy close by. He suffered no pain at all. I know that the manner of his death, the most honorable a soldier could have, engaged in defending his country against aggression, must be as consoling to you as it is to know what an excellent soldier he was."
He is remembered at the Oakdale Cemetery in Hendersonville, Henderson County, North Carolina.
