More information

Pvt Robert F. Britt enlisted in Boston, Massachusetts on 10 March 1943. He initially was sent to Fort Jackson, South Carolina where he rose to the rank for Technician 4th Class.

He requested transfer to the paratroopers, which resulted in losing his rank and becoming a private again.

He was sent overseas in June 1944 where he joined the 101st Airborne Division as a remplacement after D-Day.

Some records still list him with the Service Company of the 506th PIR (like it is mentioned on his grave stone). In that case he was probably killed in the vicinity of Opheusden. Other records mention him recently transferred to the 426th Airborne Quartermaster Company. This unit operated in Nijmegen.
