A/C no. 133, piloted by Captain Lewis, was lead ship of our section. At 1250 around 50 e/a, ME-109´s and FW 190´s, attacked from 10 o´clock high. A/C 133 was hit and dropped out of the formation. They were in the vicinity of Hanover where it crashed at the Spannhagenstrasse. Alfred Contioso died before the aircraft blew up. 9 Corpses were found and were initially buried by the Germans at the local cemetery.Sgt Contioso is memorialized at Golden Gate National Cemetery in San Bruno, California.
