1st Lt Emanuel H. Gracie Jr. graduated from East Providence High School and was a carpenter.

He joined the National Guard in Providence, Rhode Island on 24 February 1941. He was sent overseas in May 1944.

Lt. Gracie was killed when the glider, in which he was a passenger, crashed.

Together with six other casualties, he was initially buried at the crash site.
