Pfc Joseph C. Belanger attended St. Mary's School and the Rhinelander High School.He joined the National Guard in Rhinelander, Wisconsin on 15 October 1940. He became a member of Rhinelander's Company B and left with the company in 1940. He was assigned to paratroop training and received his schooling in that branch of service at Fort Benning, Ga.
Pfc Belanger went overseas in 1943 and had been in England until only a few weeks before the action in Belgium which resulted in his death.
He was first buried at Temporary American Military Cemetery Grand Failly, France.
