Pvt Rolland J. Preder entered service July 31, 1944. He was sent to Fort Sheridan for his training. In August, he and his twin brother Rollin were home on a three-day pass, and then he was sent to Fort Robinson, Arkansas. In December he spent five days at home on a delay en route to Fort Meade, Md. He he left for overseas duty in January, 1945 and the family received word that he had arrived safely in Belgium. Pvt Preder was a member of the Gibbsville Reformed church.

His brother Gerald Preder was killed in action on September 13, 1943 while serving with the armed forces in Italy. Three other brothers were serving with the armed forces at the present time: Pvt Warren Dale Preder in Australia; Pvt Gordon Preder at Fort Bragg, N.C., and Pvt Rollin Preder in Great Bend, Kansas.
