Harry K. Von Dreau graduated from Williamsburgh High School and was a senior student at Temple University when he volunteered for the Army of the United States in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania on 6 February 1942.

He was initially buried at the Temporary American Military Cemetery of Grand Failly, France.

His brother, Pvt Marlin E. Von Dreau, was wounded in action in Luxembourg and was taken to a hospital in England and later went back to the U.S.. His brother Pvt William J. Von Dreau served at the Aleutian Islands.
