More information

Pfc Wayne W. Steffey was a farmhand and was also employed with the Pennsylvania Railroad Company.

He enlisted in Altoona, Pennsylvania on 29 March 1943 and was sent overseas on 14 March 1944.

His tank tried to by-pass a bridge when it hit a mine. The tank became a total wreck with all crew members killed. The mine was believed to be an aerial bomb. Most likely, Pfc Steffey was one of the crew members.
