S/Sgt Jefferson D. Pierce III was a sales clerk before he enlisted in Worcester, Massachusetts on 1 March 1941.

While on a reconnaissance patrol north of Metz on 24 October 1944, S/Sgt Pierce sustained wounds from which he died ten days later in a German prison hospital at Stalag XII-C.

He served with his unit since the invasion on Utah Beach on 6 June 1944.
