More information

Pfc Donald H. Meyers enlisted at Fort George G. Meade, Maryland on 25 April 1942.

A letter from the Commanding Officer explains: "Pfc Meyers was an ammunition bearer for the 1st Machine Gun Squad, Company F. He was hit by sniper fire while his company was engaging the enemy near Bastogne, Belgium. He received first aid treatment and was evacuated to the aid station despite extremely adverse conditions. Though seriously wounded he never complained thereby gaining the respect and admiration of his fellow soldiers. He died of his wounds after reaching the aid station."

He was first buried at the Temporary American Military Cemetery of Grand Failly, France.
