T/5 Martin R. Murphy was employed as a carpenter at the Savanna Ordnance depot before he enlisted on 3 December 1943 at Fort Snelling.
He received his basic training at camp Abbott, Oregon, leaving for duty overseas in September 1944.

He was killed by artillery shrapnel.
