More information
Pvt Isaac Graubart attended high school for four years and before he enlisted at Fort Dix, New Jersey on 18 December 1943.While advancing through the Siegfried line, the platoon of which Pvt Graubart was a member was pinned down by small arms fire. Towards dark, it was decided that they were to stay in their positions overnight. Isaac and another fellow dug a slit trench as protection from the machinegun fire and went to sleep. During the night, Germans shelled their position. Early the next morning, while they were still in their holes, an enemy artillery round burst in a tree directly over Pvt Graubart’s hole and shell fragments killed him immediately while his partner was seriously wounded. He did not utter a word and he died almost without anyone knowing about it.
