T/5 Kenneth F. Gerdlund graduated from St Helens High School in 1940.

He enlisted in Portland, Oregon on 12 October 1942.

His brother-in-law, Lt Maurice F. Gourley a P-51 pilot, was killed in April 1945 while escorting B-29 bombers over Tokyo. He is memorialized at the Honolulu Memorial.
