Pfc Joseph M. Le Van joined the Regular Army on 4 September 1940. He served at the Panama Canal Zone, Dutch New Guinea and in Suriname before being returned to the United States. He was sent to Europe in May 1944.He was reported wounded in action on 30 September 1944. After recovering, he rejoined his unit on 15 October 1944.
