Charles Pender graduated from Mississippi State College.He joined the Air Corps of the U.S. Army Reserve at Barksdale Field, Louisiana on 3 June 1942 and was awarded his pilot wings in Dothan, Alabama, in October 1943.
He was married to Rachel Clements on 4 August 1944 and was sent overseas in February 1945.
He was killed in a plane crash. While circling the airfield to land, the airplane rolled over, spun in, and exploded upon contact with the ground.
He was initially buried at the Temporary American Military Cemetery of Limey, France, on 20 March 1945. He was given his final resting place at Lorraine Cemetery on 19 March 1949.
He is remembered at the cemetery of his hometown.
Both his brothers served with the U.S. Navy during the war.
