Pfc Ralph J. Carnes was employed at the Springs Cotton Mill in Lancaster before he enlisted at Fort Jackson Columbia, South Carolina on 17 November 1942.He was first buried at the Temporary American Military Cemetery in Andilly, France.
He is remembered at the Oak Hill Baptist Church Cemetery in Lancaster, Lancaster County, South Carolina.
