More information

Pfc Lloyd I. Ames enlisted in Binghamton, New York on 22 November 1942.

He was awarded the Silver Star Medal posthumously for gallantry, when his anti-tank platoon was assigned the mission of protecting the flank during the 1st battalion’s attack on strongly fortified Siegfried Line positions. While advancing as the first scout he suddenly encountered a small pocket of enemy resistance. He immediately opened fire killing two Germans, dispersing the remainder of the hostile force and permitting his comrades to continue their advance. Later that day enemy self propelled guns directed heavy fire into the platoon area, he exposed himself to locate the hostile weapons while doing so, a shell burst close by, killed him instantly.
