Per S/Sgt Thad E. Blanchard Sr.: "I was ahead of him about five yards. Running out of grenades, I yelled for him to throw one to me. He was crouched by a tree and when looked back I knew he was dead. He had the grenade in his hand just ready to toss it to me. Just as I ran to him, a machine gun opened up, and I grabbed the grenade and slammed it at the position, cussing those Krauts for killing this brave young life."Source of information: Terry Hirsch, Peter Schouteten, Carla Mans, www.wwiimemorial.com, www.archives.gov, http://www.ww2-airborne.us/units/507/507_honor_pr.html, www.ancestry.com - Headstone and Interment Record, 1930 US Census
