The enemy launched a series of attacks and over-ran the area being defended, forcing the unit of which he was a member to withdraw. Because of the tactical situation, no attempt could be made to evacuate the casualties incurred in this action.A unit of the American Graves Registration Service had conducted a thorough search throughout the area in an attempt to locate the remains of Pvt Pease but all efforts had been proven futile.
