Capt Richard S. Herried graduated from Vermillion High School in 1935 and attended the University of South Dakota. He worked as a radio technician.

He volunteered for the U.S. Army in Los Angeles, California on 25 March 1942.

He attended 2 years of college and was a technician.

The plane crashed shortly after take-off and while joining up.

Capt Herried was first buried at Temporary American Military Cemetery Solers, France.
