Pfc James L. Baney was employed at the Acheson Graphite Company.

He received his military training at Camp Bennett, Texas, and Fort Benning, Georgia. He served overseas for 11 months and participated in the campaigns in Italy and Southern France before he was sent to Northern Europe.
