Cpl Dale D. Au graduated from Union High School and worked at Mansfiels Westhinghouse.He was killed at Advance Landing Ground A-71, Clastres, France, when a B-26C, #42-107844, returning from an operational mission crashed at the East-West runway and immediately burst into flames. Two crash crews arrived at the scene of the crash at 1134 hours. The crash crew had rescued two of the wounded crew members. In an attempt to rescue the third member Cpl Au went into the plane trying to reach the wounded crew member. At that moment the bomb load which the plane was carrying detonated and resulted in his death.
He was first buried at the Temporary American Military Cemetery of Champigneul, France.
