2nd Lt Howard L. Smith graduated from Bound Brook High School in 1938.

He enlisted in May 1941 and was sent overseas in December 1943.

His tank was knocked out by a tank of the 113th Panzer Brigade, probably a Panzer IV.

2nd Lt Howard L. Smith was initially buried at the Temporary American Military Cemetery of St. Avold, France.
