Pfc Robert S. Opacich attended Custer County High School where he was prominent on the football and basketball team.He enlisted in Salt Lake City, Utah on 22 May 1942.
His parents were immigrants from Yugoslavia and his name is often spelled Opack or O'Pack.
Pfc Robert S. Opacich was killed in action during the assault boat crossing of the Waal River in Nijmegen, the Netherlands.
He was initially buried at the Temporary American Military Cemetery of Molenhoek, the Netherlands.
