More information

1st Lt Alvin S. Kidd Jr. was a salesman before he volunteered for the U.S. Army in Los Angeles, California, on 29 December 1941.

Statement from 1st Lt Warren H. Taylor: "I saw a direct hit in mid-section of Lt Folsom’s plane, to the immediate rear of waist windows, which blew the entire tail section from that part apart, completely off the plane. The fore section immediately lurched forward into a steep dive, falling swiftly straight down. The remainder of the tail section fell apart; watched ship until it fell into smoke below, and no parachutes were seen."
