Pvt Francis I. Gladek graduated from Coal Township High School in 1942 and worked in a textile factory..He enlisted in Harrisbourg, Pennsylvania on 20 May 1943.
He was reported missing in action in the vicinity of Martelange, Belgium on 21 December 1944 and died at Stalag IV-B
Pvt Gladek's Bronze Star citation states that in December 1944 he braved heavy enemy gunfire to fire bazooka rockets at approaching tanks.
