Pvt Marion Michalak enlisted in Erie, Pennsylvania on 6 February 1943.Both his parents were born in Poland.
Mike's foster mother was his paternal aunt. She was also born in Poland.
Pvt Michalak was wounded during the airdrop and died two days later, possibly in Veghel, where many of the wounded where taken to the 50th Field Hospital.
He was initially buried at the Temporary American Cemetery of Son, The Netherlands.
