Pfc Joseph G. Kuchinskas' mother died in 1926 when he was nineteen month's old and his father placed him in care of Agnes Chessick, a neighbor of the family who lived across the streetHe enlisted in Wilkes Barre, Pennsylvania on 4 March 1943. He trained at Fort Jackson, South Carolina and was sent overseas from Fort George Meade, Maryland in May 1944.
Together with 55 other men he joined his company as remplacements on 10 July 1944.
The C Company Morning Report of 15 October mentions that he was reported killed in action on 9 October when he drowned while being evacuated for combat exhaustion.
Pfc Kuchinskas was initially buried at the Temporary American Military Cemetery of Molenhoek near Nijmegen, the Netherlands.
