Biography

His friend, M. Louis Kunofsky wrote the following about Walter Kemock (dated 7 November 2018): "Walter Kemock with his mother and step father lived four houses away from me in Waterbury Connecticut USA. We became friends when we were about 10 or 11 years old, went to the same grammar school and then high school together. In our high school years Walter and I and two other friends had a small orchestra, Walter played accordion, I played violin and our other two friends Bill and Steve Melnick were brothers, they played mandolin. Those were enjoyable years. Walter enlisted in the Army July of 1943 one month after high school graduation, he left his accordion with me.(I often wonder if he had a premonition that he might not come home) I left home for the Army in September of 1943. I served in Italy, was in a combat division and Walter and I sent Vmail letters to each other, then one day several letters came back to me stamped KIA, the greatest shock in my life, I was in combat for 18 months and you get used to losing buddies, killed or wounded, but in Walters case it was too close to me. it is 70 years since Walters death and I still think of him every day. I am 93 years old now and Walter will always be 21 forever. You asked about Walters occupation, he worked every day after school in an auto body shop, Our plans were when we came home after the war to open a large gas station including light auto body work."
