More information

Pfc Hugh Harris worked on a farm.

He joined the National Guard in Monroe, Georgia on 25 November 1940.

This is an extract of a letter the personnel officer of the regiment, Capt C. M. McLaughlin, wrote to his parents, explaining what happened to their son: "Pfc Harris was with his company on 12 March, which was "holding a defensive position along the western bank of the Rhine River in the vicinity of Woltershef, Germany. At 10 a.m. a three man patrol, consisting of your son and two other men was sent across the river on a reconnaissance mission. When the patrol failed to return, your son was reported missing in action. His body was subsequently recovered and prepared for burial in a United States Military cemetery at Margraten."
