More information
2nd Lt Robert L. Ford enlisted in San Antonio, Texas on 18 November 1942.His father served in WWI.
According to Fold3, Lt Ford was in a plane crash in Benzberg, Germany on 18 September 1945, resulting in a fractured skull. He was hospitalized at 3:30 pm on the 18th at the 39 British General Hospital but never regained consciousness and died at 8:30 am on 19 September 1945.
The British hospital mentioned was stationed in Rendsburg, Germany, at the time. The crash site would then have been 540 km further south. For this reason, the accuracy of this information is questionable.
He was first buried in a temporary grave at Margraten on 20 September 1945. He was disinterred on 1 September 1948 and given his final resting place on 1 March 1949.
