More information
The airplane was intercepted and downed from an altitude of approximately 5200 meters by Oblt. Lothar line and crew of 12./NJG.1. The Halifax was out of control right away, because the pilot, as well as the Flight Engineer, Sgt K E Emmons, were killed by the first enemy fire. Therefore, the rest of the crew left the airplane as soon as possible.
