Cpl Warner R. Wheat enlisted in Hartford, Connecticut on 23 March 1942.His commanding officer, Lt Col Kenneth L. Booth wrote a letter to his parents on 11 April 1945, explaining what happened to their son: ""Cpl Wheat's death was caused by small arms fire from automatic weapons encountered on the drop zone. His death must have been instantaneous."
