2nd Lt Francis J. O'Toole graduated from Darien High School and Yale University. He received his commission following his graduation from Yale in June 1943. He was sent overseas in November 1944.He had three brothers in the service: Pfc Thomas E. O'Toole, Jr., also serving on the western front; Cpl James O'Toole, U.S. Army Air Forces in, Nashville, Tennessee and Lt Vincent O'Toole, a bomber pilot.
He was killed during an Allied bombing raid during a forced march after the ecaucation of the POW camp where he was held.
