More information

Pvt Edward R. Knox

He was awarded the Silver Star Medal posthumously. The citation cited: For gallantry in action again the enemy near Wesel, Germany, on 24 March 1945. Upon landing behind enemy lines in the airborne operation across the Rhine River, Pfc Knox, with gallantry and utter disregard for his own safety attempted to rescue a wounded comrade from an exposed position very near an enemy held house. Although the attempt was unsuccessful, his unselfish action exemplified the highest sense of duty and was in keeping with the highest standards of military conduct.

On the photo, he poses with his brother John. Two other brothers also served: 2nd Lt Leonard Knox served in the South Pacific and Arthur Knox in the U.S. Navy.
