Pfc Alman Busk was a former.He first served as a cooking instructor which earned him the rank of technical sergeant.
During maneuvers he suffered a broken foot, which could hem be discharged for medical reasons, but as soon as the injury healed, he asked to be transferred, which also meant he would be demoted to private.
He was sent overseas in October 1944. There, he again developed foot trouble and was hospitalized. Return to the States was offered, but Busk refused to accept. Instead he went back to front line duty.
