T/Sgt Robert L. Burgess attended high school for 3 years and was a farmer. He enlisted at Camp Shelby, Mississippi on 6 november 1942.He was awarded the Silver Star Medal posthumously for skillfully leading his anti-tank platoon to capture and destroy a reconnaissance element of a hostile armored task force. He was killed during this action.
