2nd Lt Raymond W. Reid attended college before he joined the Army in Raleigh, North Carolina on 2 November 1942.

Statement from Sgt Eugene H. Bohlin:
"Lt Reid was flying number four position when his right engine started to smoke and cut out. He dropped out of the formation, flew parallel with it, but slowly drifted away. When I last saw him he was flying straight and level."

Lt Reid bailed out but his chute did not opened.

He was first buried at the Temporary American Military Cemetery of Munsingen, Switzerland.
